Use ChatGPT Agent Mode to instantly tailor your resume to the jobs that matter most.

Finding a good-paying job has become incredibly tough these days. LinkedIn postings feel out of reach, and even with solid experience, your resume seems to get lost in the pile when you apply.

You might have tried ChatGPT for job hunting, but didn't get the results you wanted. Well, OpenAI actually has a feature that can streamline your entire job search. Instead of manually scrolling through listings and trying to make sense of them all, you can give ChatGPT your LinkedIn details, and it'll automate the process.

It searches for relevant jobs using the right keywords and matches them to your background. If your resume is missing skills that a job requires, it'll suggest what to add, help tailor your resume, and give you actionable advice to improve your chances.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to collect job descriptions, feed them to ChatGPT agent mode, upload or paste your resume, get actionable recommendations, and tailor your resume to match the job description.

Let’s dive into it right away!

Step 1 - Collect job descriptions

The first thing to do is to collect job descriptions on LinkedIn. Log in to your LinkedIn account and search for the jobs you are interested in applying for. 

Click to set an alert for these jobs. You will receive a list of jobs in your email. 

Check your email. Label the email with something like ‘Job alerts’

Now log in to your ChatGPT account, click new chat, and select ‘Agent mode’ by clicking the ‘+’ button in the chatbox. 

The sources drop-down will appear in the chatbox automatically. Connect your Gmail by turning it on in the sources. This will help ChatGPT access your email and search for specific emails that are labeled ‘Job alerts.’

Step 2 - Feed them into ChatGPT agent mode

As soon as you receive a job alert, you can prompt ChatGPT to fetch the job titles and description and list them in a particular order. The only task is to ensure that all the job alerts you receive in Gmail are labeled. 

Make sure the Agent mode is selected. Type a prompt instructing ChatGPT to fetch job alerts from your Gmail account. 

Prompt:

Fetch the job titles and their descriptions from the Gmail account under the label ‘job alerts’. List them in alphabetical order. 

Now select a job for which you want to tailor your resume. Visit the LinkedIn job description for the selected job and copy/paste the description in the ChatGPT Agent mode. 

Prompt:

Focus on ‘Manager, Documentation. Here is the job description.
{Paste the job description.}

Do not send the prompt yet. We must tell ChatGPT what to do with this job description. 

Step 3 - Upload or paste your resume

Upload your resume or paste it below the job description. It’s better to upload it. Specify the following prompt at the end of the pasted job description. 

Prompt:

{Upload your resume}

Keep this job title and description handy. Compare it with the resume I have uploaded. 

ChatGPT Agent will start working.

ChatGPT will provide a reviewed comparison of the job requirements and your experience outlined in the resume you uploaded. It will provide detailed insights. 

Step 4 - Get actionable recommendations

Now that you have gotten a summary of the comparison, it’s time to get actionable recommendations. Use the following prompt to get recommendations for the type of jobs you should be applying to and how to search for them on LinkedIn. 

Prompt:

Give me actionable recommendations on finding the most relevant jobs aligned with my experience and skills. Also, please provide the search techniques I can use to find relevant jobs on LinkedIn including tags, search string, and some clever ways to find rare job roles. 

You can also instruct ChatGPT to reformat your resume and make it ATS-friendly. 

Prompt:

Optimize and enhance the resume to maximize compatibility with ATS (Applicant Tracking System) algorithms. Identify gaps and areas for improvement to create a highly effective and industry-standard resume for a `Job Title` position in the `industry/field`. Ensure a seamless match with the job description, highlighting key qualifications and achievements.
