👨💻 Reddit's CEO Defends API Changes In AMALINK
Reddit is pushing ahead with API pricing changes despite backlash from its user community, leading to the closure of third-party apps like Apollo, Sync, RIF, and Reddplant.
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has strongly criticized Apollo developer Christian Selig, accusing him of inconsistent communication and even hinting at extortion, leading to a tense exchange between the two parties.
Despite suggestions from users for alternatives such as a profit-sharing model and the ongoing site-wide protest, Huffman reiterated that Reddit is currently unprofitable and must be profit-driven to support its operations and its API ecosystem.
📈 Netflix Gains 200,000+ Subscribers Post Password-Sharing CrackdownLINK
Netflix's recent crackdown on password sharing has led to a significant increase in sign-ups, the largest since January 2019, according to data from research firm Antenna.
Netflix's stock has seen a 25% increase in the last month and a 129% increase in the past year, indicating that the market approves of their content and account policies.
If this approach to password sharing proves successful for Netflix, other streaming services such as HBO Max, Amazon, Apple, Hulu, Disney, Paramount, and Peacock might adopt similar measures.
🐦 Meta Is Developing a 'Sanely Run' Twitter AlternativeLINK
Meta is developing a standalone application, internally known as "Project 92," that aims to offer users easy transferability of their accounts and followers between platforms supported by the ActivityPub protocol.
The upcoming app is intended to provide a safe, user-friendly, and dependable platform for content creators and public figures, addressing their need for a well-moderated space for audience growth.
Meta's Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox, disclosed that coding for the app started in January and that the company is working hard to expedite its release.
👀 Leaked Documents Reveal Tesla Cybertruck Prototype IssuesLINK
A recently leaked internal Tesla report reveals significant design issues with the Cybertruck, including braking, handling, sealing, and noise levels, as of January 2022.
The report contradicts earlier production promises, indicating the truck's design was still in alpha stage two years after its unveiling, potentially explaining the ongoing production delays.
Despite these setbacks, Tesla aims to offer Cybertruck variants with different numbers of motors upon launch, although the single-motor version may be canceled and the quad-motor feature is still in early development stages.
