UnitedHealthcare CEO Andrew Witty indicated that a cyberattack on Change Healthcare might have affected approximately a third of US citizens.
Witty admitted the company is still determining the exact number of people impacted and has not yet begun notifying victims, which may take "several months."
The breach was facilitated by hackers accessing a Change Healthcare Citrix portal without multi-factor authentication, a security measure now enforced across UnitedHealth and Change Healthcare systems.
