OpenAI has established a Safety and Security Committee led by board members, including CEO Sam Altman, as it starts training a new AI model.
Key members of the new committee include directors Bret Taylor, Adam D'Angelo, Nicole Seligman, new Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki, and head of security Matt Knight.
The committee’s first task is to evaluate and recommend enhancements to OpenAI's safety practices within 90 days, after which the company will share an update publicly following the board's review.

Google introduced AI-powered features for Chromebook Plus, such as a writing assistant, wallpaper creator, and access to the Gemini chatbot.
New and existing Chromebook users will see enhanced features like easier setup via QR code, integration of Tasks in the calendar view, and screen recordings saved as GIFs.
Google announced six new Chromebook models from HP, Acer, and Asus, with prices ranging from $299 to $699, and several upcoming features like Gemini-powered reading summaries and improved continuity for tasks across devices.
💰 T-Mobile signs a $4.4 billion deal to buy most of US CellularLINK
T-Mobile has made a $4.4 billion agreement to buy parts of US Cellular, including its wireless customers, stores, and 30% of its spectrum assets, while US Cellular will retain its towers and most of its spectrum.
The deal aims to improve 5G connectivity in underserved rural areas, enhance nationwide coverage for US Cellular customers, and reduce the number of competing carriers in existing US Cellular markets, pending regulatory approval by mid-2025.
T-Mobile assures that US Cellular customers can remain on their current plans or switch to T-Mobile's unlimited plans at no cost, and this follows T-Mobile's recent $1.35 billion acquisition of Mint Mobile.
💸 Bitcoin plummets after $9B transaction from defunct Mt. Gox exchangeLINK
Bitcoin fell by as much as 3.1% as traders monitored movements of Bitcoin linked to the failed Mt. Gox exchange, which is in the process of returning a $9 billion Bitcoin hoard to creditors.
The recent transfer of more than 137,000 Bitcoin from Mt. Gox wallets is raising concerns about potential sales from creditors, potentially pressuring Bitcoin’s price.
The Mt. Gox movements are the first since May 2018, and although some experts believe it will only have a short-term impact, the broader market is paying attention to supportive crypto regulations from US lawmakers.
💥 YouTube is cracking down further on adblockersLINK
YouTube is intensifying its crackdown on adblocker usage, with users reporting issues like muted videos and videos skipping to the end.
Some users noted they had to disable or uninstall their adblockers to restore normal video playback and encountered ads once again.
Last month, YouTube began stricter enforcement against third-party apps violating its Terms of Service, and directed users to opt for YouTube Premium for an ad-free experience.
